About this event
This webinar will share the story, impact and lessons learned from a co-design project to enhance stroke awareness in Vietnamese communities across South West Sydney.
Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability in Australia, and getting to hospital quickly is critical. Research showed that Vietnamese-speaking people experiencing acute stroke symptoms were less likely to call an ambulance or present to hospital early, potentially reducing their chances of achieving the best possible recovery.
In response, a multidisciplinary team of health professionals, researchers, multicultural health experts and Vietnamese community members worked together to understand the community’s needs and develop an interactive and culturally appropriate stroke education program. The program focused on recognising the signs of stroke, understanding stroke risk factors, knowing how to respond, and the importance of calling 000 without delay.
The webinar will share how the team worked alongside the Vietnamese community to co-design and deliver the program. The team will also share what they learned about building genuine partnerships, working with trusted community leaders, remaining flexible and allowing communities to lead.

The webinar is relevant to anyone interested in improving health awareness, health literacy and outcomes in multicultural communities, including health and medical researchers, healthcare professionals, multicultural health workers, community and social organisations, consumers, carers, community leaders and people involved in consumer and community engagement.
